Stoicism goes way back but it is definitely the way forward, and the modern world is taking notice!
A dichotomy it may be, but in our ultra technological world the ancient teachings of stoicism have never been more relevant, useful, or helpful than they are today. This Hellenistic philosophy thrived in the Greek and Roman empires, championed by icons such as Zeno, Marcus Aurelius, Seneca, and Epictetus. In short, stoicism promotes living in accordance with nature, and asserts that virtuous practices ensure a well-lived life (a state they called eudaemonia).
The journey of a stoic is a deeply individual path, and the more that one learns about its practices the more one will have the opportunity to apply its principles into the unique situations of their distinct life path. Stoicism is often described as the road to self-mastery.
Wisdom, temperance, justice, and courage; these are the flag bearing virtue standards that guide the approach of the philosophy’s practitioners. No human is perfect, but the stoics assert that if one embraces the four chief virtues then they would not shrink away from challenge or adversity. Instead of vainly attempting to avoid hardship and difficulty, stoicism trains one to handle these inevitable tests of character, and to see these trials as opportunities to grow and improve.
